Services Offered At Our Clinic

General Veterinary Services

At Ballarat Family Petcare we have written policies, procedures and standards in place . It's all part of our team commitment to you....Our clinic staff treat all domestic pets, birds and wildlife.

We are committed to educating our clients about the well being of their pets, on such things as desexing, , nutrition, grooming and puppy classes, surgical procedures, medical assessments all being a major part of 'Responsible Pet Ownership'.

Preventative Health Care

Preventive health like worming, vaccination, flea control are a major part of our Veterinary services .

EXAMINATIONS are the most important part to effective preventative care for your pet. A good examination can detect problems before they arise or while in their earliest phases when treatment can be most effective. We advise a yearly exam for all animals under eight years of age and twice yearly after that.

A thorough examination will check your pet's eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth and throat, heart, lungs, abdominal organs, skin and coat, feet, including pads and nails, vital statistics, weight and body score, nervous and muscular systems. Because pets do indeed age at an accelerated rate, the frequency of your pet's examination is more than that of humans.

Radiology

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that involves sending sound waves into the body and recording the signals that are reflected back (very simplified explanation). This allows the user to view in greater detail the external and internal details of body organs such as the heart, liver, and uterus. Where an X-ray may reveal that an internal mass is present, ultrasound may be able to determine if the mass is solid or fluid-filled, attached to a specific organ and the shape of the mass. Ultrasound can also be used to determine how many kittens are inside a pregnant cat or if the valves of the heart are functioning properly.

Pathology

Our new on-site laboratory equipment means we can process most blood samples without delay, but when needed we can access a veterinary pathology service that usually gives same day results. We make use of the blood testing facilities for pre-anaesthetic screening . With in-house equipment blood tests can be done on the morning of admission , ensuring that your pet can be cared for as quickly as possible.Urine samples to check for infection, microscopy and skin samples can be examined for evidence of mites and external parasites.

Dentistry

We can provide comprehensive dental care for your pets using our modern equipment.

Natural Therapies

Acupunture,Traditional Chinese Medicine and Bach Flower remedies are offered as an adjunct to conventional medical therapies. See our Article on Acupuncture on the Articles section......

Pet Insurance

General maintenance of animals is an owner's responsibility and it should be budgeted for. Usually things such as general dental care, innoculations etc are not covered by Pet Insurance, but some are allowing rebates on these and they do cover the unexpected expenses , such as road accidents, poisonings or sudden onset of a debilitating disease, the costs of which can amount to several hundred dollars.

There are a few companies now offering Pet Insurance and it is up to the individuals to check out and compare each policy to make sure they are getting the coverage they want and can afford. We do have brochures on :

Vet's Own - or go to the website to see their coverage -www.vetsown.com.au

Pet Secure -or go to the website to see their coverage -www.petsecure.com.au
